There have been rumors circulating online regarding the cancellation of "Sherlock." Actor Benedict Cumberbatch ended this rumor once and for all.

According to GamenGuide, Cumberbatch revealed that during the promotion of his upcoming movie "Doctor Strange" in Hong Kong, his previous statement about the show was taken out of context.  The 40-year old previously said in an interview that "Sherlock" Season 4 will be the "last for now." Many have taken this as a confirmation that Season 4 will be the final season of the show.

Cumberbatch explained that they loved doing the show; however, the stars have been busy with other projects as of the moment. He encouraged the fans to watch "Sherlock" Season 4 first in order for them to understand things before going to any conclusion. Cumberbatch added that this will be the last time he is talking about the show and he expressed his dismay about irresponsible journalism.

Meanwhile, Parent Herald reported that series co-producer and co-writer, Mark Gatiss may have confirmed the death of a major character in "Sherlock" Season 4. In an interview with BBC Radio 5, Gatiss confirmed that Jim Moriarty who is played by Andrew Scott is dead as of Season 4. However, when he was asked about the possibility of seeing his character Mycroft Holmes in Season 4, he did not know what to answer.

On the other hand, co-producer and co-writer Steven Moffat is very positive that "Sherlock" will not end in Season 4 and that Season 5 will be possible. Although Gatiss is unsure about that, he assured the fans that the show will not air without Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch is also optimistic about having "Sherlock" Season 5 but he thinks that the future seasons will be released with more gaps between releases.

"Sherlock" Season 4 is scheduled to air in January 1, 2017 on BBC.
