Seth MacFarlane is reuniting with Universal in his new western, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

They will co-finance and distribute the new film, Univeral said on Friday

The reunion comes just one year after working together to release MacFarlane's first major animated film, Ted.

MacFarlane will co-write, produce and direct the animated film. It stars MacFarlane as a sheep farmer named Albert who is trying to win back the love of his life.  Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Sarah Silverman and Giovanni Ribisi will also have roles in the film.

The Ted team will also work on the film. Producers Scott Stuber and Jason Clark will produce, while co-writers Wellesley Wild and Alec Sulkin are also on board.

Universal is also interested in creating Ted 2 with MacFarlane, though nothing is set in stone just yet, according to the Wrap. Filming for MacFarlane's new western will begin shortly. The film's release date is currently set for May 30, 2014.

MacFarlane has been one of the most successful writers and directors in television thanks to his hit animated series "Family Guy" and "American Dad!"

He proved he had no problem crossing over to film with his animated feature, "Ted." The movie grossed $549 million worldwide.

Media Rights Capital, the production company that worked on Ted, will help finance the film along with Universal. It's not often you see an animated western comedy, but with a star-studded cast and the best in the animation business in MacFarlane, there's no telling how successful it will be.

Rumor has it MacFarlane may be dating Theron, one of the stars of the upcoming film.
