Microsoft has just announced its latest technology in their recent event in New York City. The company has released the new Microsoft Surface Studio which is said to be available in limited quantities in the coming holidays.

According to The Verge, preorders for the Surface Studio have already begun. Microsoft's devices team head Panos Panay said that the new desktop will change the way people create and learn.

The desktop was said to have the world's thinnest CD monitor with only 12.5mm in thickness. It has also a touchscreen display across the 28 inches monitor. Panay said that the screen is the best in the market with a display output of 13.5 million pixels which is about 63 percent more than a 4K television.

The Surface Studio is the perfect desktop for photographers, designers and videographers given that it has an expanded color output. The display has a 3:2 aspect ratio, with 192 pixels per inch.

The desktop is also powered with Intel's 6th generation processors and uses Nvidia GTX 980M GPU in the premium model. The monitor can be adjusted to a 20-degree orientation which is convenient for artists to work on their artworks.

For storage, the desktop comes in different variants with 1 TB or 2 TB hybrid drive and a memory of 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of RAM. The monitor also has a 5MP front camera and a 1080p video rear camera.

The desktop comes with a Surface pen and a Surface Dial. The Surface Dial can be placed directly on the monitor to trigger menus that will control screen brightness, volume, scrolling through a document and even a color palette.

Many believe that the new Surface Studio will be a good rival against Apple's iMac computer. Pocket-lint compared the two computers and it was revealed that although the Surface Studio is thinner and more flexible, the Apple iMac has more minimal footprint. However, the base of the Surface Studio gives it the flexibility it needs that the iMac does not offer.

Another huge difference between the two is the display. If Surface Studio has 3:2 aspect ratios, the iMac has 16:9. iMac also offers different configurations when it comes for the hardware.

Lastly, the price between the two varies greatly. The Surface Studio is available for preorder for $2,999 while the Apple iMac only costs $1,799.
