Today co-host Savannah Guthrie announced on air Monday morning that her boyfriend of four years, Michael Feldman, proposed to her over Mother's Day weekend.

The 41-year-old morning show host and 44-year-old political and communications advisor have been dating since 2009. Feldman was an adviser to Al Gore and is now the founding partner and managing director of the Washington, D.C., strategic communications firm Glover Park Group, according to The Washington Post.

The firm was formed in 2001 and also has a location in New York City. According to its official website, it strives to separate itself from other public affairs firms that "trend to be pretty bureaucratic places where a billable hour has a bigger value than a brighter idea."

Feldman served as one of the Clinton Administration's chief liaisons to the United States Congress. He graduated with honors from Tufts University and a year before he joined the Clinton-Gore campaign in 1992, he worked on the election campaign of Senator Harris Wofford of Pennsylvania.

The couple started dating when Guthrie was still NBC's White House correspondent and Feldman proposed during a weekend getaway in Turks and Caicos.

Guthrie said of her fiance: "He's the best person. He knows me inside and out, and we just adore each other. Our mothers are like, 'Hallelujah!' "

Feldman answered questions via phone from Today's Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

"Were you nervous? You knew she was going to say yes, right? The woman's desperate!" Gifford said, to which Feldman joked, "I hoped there was a secondary market for diamonds like that."

Guthrie was married once before, from 2005 to 2009 to TV producer Mark Orchard.
