Eddie Redmayne is addressing rumors that he once dated pop superstar Taylor Swift.

Redmayne, who is currently promoting his new movie, Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, spoke with Watch What Happens Live's Andy Cohen about rumors he dated Swift in 2012.

A viewer called in to ask Redmayne directly if the rumors were true, to which the actor responded, "I absolutely can put the rumors to rest. I never went out on a date with Taylor Swift. Although I met Taylor Swift."

Redmayne starred in the 2012 movie adaptation of Les Miserables, for which Swift tried out.

"She auditioned for Les Miserables and she was amazing in the audition," he admitted. "We got to sing together, which was a big moment for me. But no we never went out. She was extraordinary."

Redmayne played Marius Pontmercy, with Swift trying out for the role of Eponine, the woman whose feelings for Marius go unrequited. The role eventually went to Samantha Barks.

Redmayne, who won an Oscar in 2015 for playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, is now married to PR executive Hannah Bagshawe. They have one child, Iris, who was born in June.

The actor also spoke on the criticism his Les Mis co-star Anne Hathaway received through her Oscar campaign, with the actress ultimately winning the Academy Award for playing Fantine in the film.

"I honestly don't know, because I think she's formidable," Redmayne said, of why Hathaway was mocked and maligned. "I think she was kind of extraordinary in that film. It was an amazing thing because we were doing it live and it was the first time any of us had done it. One person would go and sing live for the first time and come and sort of report back, and how it had gone. She basically educated the rest of us on how to do it."
