American comedian and actress Amy Schumer is reported to have clinched the lead role of Barbie in a movie produced by Sony Pictures and to be shown in 2018..

Sony is supposed to have forged a partnership with Mattel Toys, the manufacturer of the 57-year old Barbie toy, with incredibly unrealistic perfect body statistics.

The movie is reported to be a funny, modern, and politically correct take on the story of a not-so-perfect woman (Schumer) who gets expelled out of the perfect and glitzy world of Barbieland and lands in the real world. She then returns to her homeland but not without realizing that happiness is not based on external beauty but on the goodness you have inside.

The movie comes opportunely for Mattel in these politically correct times in the wake of countless criticisms from feminist activists that Barbie's perfect proportions have set an unrealistic standard among young women and children for more than half a century.

In fact, a study done by Rehabs.com, a mental health website, said that if Barbie's proportions were strictly followed, a woman would not be able to stand up straight and her liver and intestines would be drastically smaller than normal Mail Online reports.

Schumer's unBarbie mold and her gutsy take on life is just a perfect way to promote the empowerment role of the new, 21st century Barbie. Sony head Tom Rothman personally approached and presented the movie's script, penned by Community producer Hilary Winston, to Schumer who agreed to sign on to the movie, Deadline has learned.

Schumer playing Barbie could be the best thing that could have happened to the actress who is becoming more known for her standup comedy flicks like the R-rated Trainwreck that she wrote and starred in and just finishing doing a movie for Dreamworks called, Thank You For Your Service.
