Chad Johnson was arrested on Monday in Florida after a judge determined that the former NFL player violated conditions stemming from his 2012 domestic assault arrest and conviction.

A Broward County judge had Johnson arrested after he appeared in court over accusations that he had violated his parole. Pictures of Johnson being handcuffed were posted on celebrity website TMZ. A warrant was issued for his arrest on May 7 after he allegedly failed to report to his probation officer. He also failed to show proof that he enrolled and completed "Batterers Intervention Program."

Johnson was arrested in August 2012 for domestic abuse against Evelyn Lozada, whom he had married in July. According to police records, he headbutted Lozada after she found a box of condoms in his car and the two began arguing. The former Basketball Wives star was treated at the hospital for cuts to her forehead.

Following the incident, the Miami Dolphins cut him from their roster and Lozada filed for divorce. He had her face tattooed on his leg in an effort to win her back and sought forgiveness in addition to taking anger management classes. Lozada opened up to Nightline in August of 2012 and shared that she left Johnson because she feared for her safety. She did not believe any woman should be afraid of their husband. However, she still felt that he was a good person.

"He's a good guy that made a bad choice. He loves football and he's very driven and a great dad," she said. "He made a bad choice that destroyed his life, and I hate that I'm connected to that."

Their divorce was granted by a judge in September. Johnson granted an interview to Inside the NFL that month and shared how the arrest and being cut from his team changed him. The athlete said he lost his honor.

"You never know what you have until it's gone.' And now I finally know what they mean," he said. "I lost two of the things that really meant the most to me."

Johnson's feelings towards his ex-wife had changed by March of 2013 when he lashed out at her online. He accused her of sleeping around while they were still together in a series of tweets. In response, her lawyers filed a cease and desist letter against Johnson. They wanted to prevent him from making any more remarks about her on Twitter.
