Supernatural Season 12 to focus more on Castiel once it resumes in January. This is surely good news for the fans of Misha Collins.

Even before Supernatural Season 12 premiered, it was said that The CW show will be focusing on angel Castiel (Misha Collins) and his past that will revolve around an enemy. It has been again confirmed by showrunner Andrew Dabb and he spoke at length about the episodes that will focus on the angel.

The second half of Supernatural Season 12 that will return in the new 8 p.m. timeslot in January will explore Castiel's past through an old enemy, reports Buddy TV. The said enemy is Lily Sunder, to be played by guest star Alicia Witt and the angle that revolves around the past of the angel will take up three separate episodes. The story will move ahead in that direction from the second episode of Season 12, part two after it returns in January.

In a recent interview, showrunner Andrew Dabb said that it was Castiel who was part of the battalion that was watching Earth and it was he who went on an all-out war to rescue Dean Winchester. He further said that having established this, now the show is taking a twist on it and telling a lost story from his past that involves Alicia Witt, reports TV Line.

According to Dabb, the episode will be extremely Cas-heavy but in a different way. Notably, the Supernatural team had been looking to give Castiel his due for a long time and the amount of Castiel-related episodes is part of that effort.

He has been almost absent in the first half of Season 12 and this was also a concern for the team. Dabb explained that they had to cram a lot into the first eight episodes and they knew Castiel and Crowley would end up getting the short shrift.

However, the team did a good job of keeping Castiel as well as Crowley alive. Still, it has to be admitted that the new characters did take up some of the space. But, the good news is that all of it will change in the coming year when Supernatural Season 12 is back with the second part. Dabb has said that they have a lot more room to play and those characters are going to come to the fore a lot more.
