Every year, several books are adapted in feature film formats, and while some are highly anticipated, others are often quieter adaptations. Some also wind up to be successful, while others generally do not.

Several films adapted from books graced the movie theaters throughout 2016, both big and small, and many were highly anticipated due to their original source material. Many failed to impress audiences and critics however, and didn't necessarily perform well at the box office either. Here are five of more successful adaptations to be released in 2016:

The Jungle Book (April)
