January Jones does not feel she owes the public an answer about who the father of her son is, insisting that the matter is no one's business.

Jones gave birth to her son Xander in September 2011 but the father of the child remains unknown. Her famous exes included Jason Sudeikis, Ashton Kutcher and Josh Groban, but she gave birth without being in a relationship at the time. She has steadfast refused to publicly name the father of her son.

Jones once again declined to give an answer on the subject in an interview with The New York Times that was published on Sunday.

"That's my son's business," Jones said. "It's not the public's business."

Jones explained that Jack Nicholson once advised her to keep a distinction between her private and professional life. She decided to heed his words about keeping personal matters to herself. She quoted the Hollywood legend in the article.

" 'You should never give your personal life away, otherwise people will pick you apart. They'll never believe in your character,' " Jones said.

The Mad Men actress said that keeping some issues close to the vest were part of a woman's charm. She felt that every woman was entitled to a few and if not for her own privacy, then to preserve a future tell all.

"It's our right to have secrets. Otherwise, what would we write in our memoirs?" she said.

Jones was willing to share a few things, such as her son's first words."Mama" was his first verbal milestone, which was followed by "back." She also addressed the uproar she caused by admitting she ate her son's placenta.

"It was like taking a vitamin blended into a smoothie. I'm a mammal. I nursed. I did all kinds of weird stuff," she said.

In the March issue of UK Glamour, Jones said she regrets the comments she made about eating her child's placenta. She told the magazine she'd still recommend the practice to pregnant woman as it can help with depression and fatigue. However, she felt her comments were taken out of context.

"I should never have told anyone about that," Jones said. "But it's not gross or witch-crafty. Nor am I putting it in a shake or eating it raw."
