Fans of Discovery's Killing Fields were left with even more questions than the Detectives of Iberville Parish when the show's first season ended without a killer in custody for the cold case murder of Eugenie Boisfontaine, but now, they may get to see a conclusion to the case when the show returns for season 2.

The series is headed back to Discovery on Jan. 3 with all-new episodes, and will once again see Detectives Rodie Sanchez and Aubrey St. Angelo, as well as the others, all once again revisiting the case of Eugenie's unsolved murder, but also having to shift their focus to other cases as well.

In a preview clip for the new season, both men still seem to be struggling with the fact that they haven't been able to find Eugenie's killer, especially Rodie, who has devoted the better part of his life to the investigation.

"Sometimes I can't sleep. Those images in your mind, it's almost like I love and breathe them every day of my life," he says in the clip. "I;m not giving up. I won't stop until I'm dead in my grave."

Aubrey also struggles however, because he also is starting to understand how Eugenie's murder has gripped Rodie the way it has, because it's become frustrating to still have no answers.

"These cold cases grab hold of you and they sink claws into your back," he says.

However, as they try to work the case and find their killer, they are also presented with new challenges, because as gorgeous as the bayou area of Louisiana can be, it also has a history-and criminals know how to use it to their advantages.

"Down here, most people see beauty," Rodie says. "But when you been a detective as long as I have, you find out the truth. It's nothing but a graveyard."

"I never knew that there was so much evil in this world. Once you see that darkness, you can't unsee it," Aubrey says.

Killing Fields airs Tuesday Jan. 3 at 10 p.m. on Discovery.
