Mark Hamill has written an emotional tribute to late co-star Carrie Fisher, revealing his own personal relationship with her.

Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars film franchise, seems to be impacted by the loss of Fisher (Princess Leia) more than most. The actor wrote a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter this week revealing how they met and how their friendship was fraught with emotion through the years.

"She was so committed to joy and fun and embracing life," Hamill wrote. "She had an Auntie Mame quality to her. I would do crazy things to amuse her on the set. Making her laugh was always a badge of honor."

While Hamill wrote that he was often "in awe" of Fisher, he also noted that there were times when they became "furious" with each other.

"When you were in her good graces, you couldn't have more fun with any person on the planet," he wrote. "She was able to make you feel like you were the most important thing in her life. I think that's a really rare quality. And then you could go 180 degrees opposite, where you were furious with one another and wouldn't speak for weeks and weeks. But that's all part of what makes a relationship complete. It's not all one-sided. Like I say, she was a handful. She was high maintenance."

However, Fisher's indomitable spirit is what Hamill was drawn to, as he described: "My life would have been so much drabber and less interesting if she hadn't been the friend that she was."

The actor also wrote that he's glad they got to experience Star Wars again at an older age, with the pair co-starring in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Hamill has been tweeting for many days about losing Fisher:
