British singer Rebecca Ferguson has reportedly been asked to sing at Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony, but she wants to do something bold.

Ferguson took to Twitter to reveal that she was reached to possibly perform at the President-elect's big ceremony. However, she requested to sing one song in particular: "Strange Fruit" by Billie Holliday.

"I've been asked and this is my answer," Ferguson tweeted. "If you allow me to sing 'strange fruit' a song that has huge historical importance, a song that was blacklisted in the United States for being too controversial. A song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States. A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world, then I will graciously accept your invitation and see you in Washington."

"Strange Fruit" has been a symbol of lynchings in America since it was first recorded in 1939. The song would famously be covered by Nina Simone, who brought the unspeakable subject matter to haunting, dramatic heights.

Meanwhile, Trump and his team have not publicly responded to Ferguson's request.

Ferguson rose to fame through the British version of The X Factor in 2010. She was the runner-up that season, and has since released four studio albums.

Very few artists have been lined up for Trump's inauguration. Jackie Evancho, another reality singing competition alum, has been tapped for the National Anthem, while the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Rockettes will also perform.

Over the past few months, there have been rumors that Trump's inauguration committee is struggling to put together a list of musicians to perform.

"They are willing to pay anything," an insider told TheWrap, of the inauguration committee trying to find musicians to play at the event. "They told me, 'We'll pay their fees.' Most of these artists' fees are in the six to seven figures."

Trump's inauguration will be held on Friday, Jan. 20.
