External hard disk drive with terabyte memories has been a norm for those users who are fond of saving a lot of data. Now, Kingston has surprised its patrons as it unveiled its world's largest 2TB capacity USB flash drive which can be a replacement to HDDs.

According to Inquirer, the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT is presently the world's highest capacity USB flash drive. Aside from the 2TB capacity version, it also arrives in a smaller 1TB variant.

When it comes with the specs, it is somewhat surprising and at the same time ominously that the Ultimate GT uses a USB 3.1 interface instead of USB-C. This may seem to be the down side of the device as most existing laptops are still using USB 3.0 ports.

Furthermore, BGR added that Ultimate GT having a USB 3.1 interface is theoretically capable of transferring files with speeds of up to 5Gbps. The DataTraveler Ultimate GT drives are assembled with a zinc-alloy metal casing for shock resistance. It also features a design akin to the DataTraveler HyperX Predator 512GB and 1TB flash drives announced in 2013.

With 2TB of data, its users store up to 70 hours of 4K video, 96 average-sized PC games, 500,000 MP3 files and 256,000 24-megapixel photos. As a matter of fact, Kingston has involved a handy assessment chart within its press release which may indicate how massive 2TB flash drive really is. This flash drive is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 (SP1), Mac OS v.10.9.x or higher, Linux v.2.6.x or higher, and Chrome OS.

Both the 1TB and 2TB DataTraveler Ultimate GT flash drives are expected to hit the market shelves in February. Nevertheless, Kingston hasn't announced any information about the price but it won't be surprising this device will be tagged over $1,000, at the very least. Additionally, the drives will be accompanied by a five-year warranty and Kingston will offer free technical support.
