Instead of outright announcing the official release date for the upcoming new fighting video game sequel, Injustice 2, NetherRealm Studios' Creative Director chose a more vague approach. Ed Boon recently posted a date on his Twitter account that seemingly announced that the game was going to be released on May 16 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

While the tweet looked like it was indeed for the game's release, the director did not respond to the fans that commented on it. Fortunately, Gamespot later confirmed that they had gotten into contact with the PR people at Warner Bros., who did confirm that the game was indeed going to be released at the said date.

Before the tweet was posted, it was highly speculated that the sequel to 2013's Injustice: Gods Among Us was coming out on March 28. The report was based on a leak on the Xbox Live Rewards page which mentioned the date specifically. Boon then debunked the rumors and mentioned that the March release date claims were in fact false.

The latest playable characters that were revealed to be coming to what Warner Bros. claims to be the "biggest DC roster ever offered in a fighting game" are Deadshot and Harley Quinn. Harley is a returning character from the original game, while Deadshot is a brand new character. Other new characters that have been revealed to be coming to the game includes Atrocitus, Blue Beetle, Gorilla Grodd, and Supergirl.

Injustice 2 has been revealed to contain the same relative gameplay mechanics as its predecessor. However, it has been revealed contain some brand new additions, like a new loot dropping system called the "Gear System." Like its predecessor, the game will also see a mobile version release for the iOS and Android operating systems. Unfortunately, there is still currently no official announcements on when the mobile version would be released.
