NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will be closing out its 14th season on Wednesday night with a highly anticipated finale episode that's set to put one of its lead characters in a dangerous position.

Executive producer of the TV series, Warren Leight, spoke about the ramifications involved when putting a particular character's livelihood in jeopardy.

"It's a very scary thing to put your people in harm's way. Yes, it makes everything much more dramatic, but then there's the issue of how often can you go to that well?  You can't do it too often or it loses its impact," he stated.

The E.P. went on to explain his motives behind the construction of such a controversial plotline, which in this case will involve Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).

"But, in this instance, we're telling a story that directly affects one of our people very deeply and she ends up in very grave situation.  It's not something that we took lightly going into this," Leight said.

NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will be airing its Season 14 finale on Wednesday, May 22 at 9p.m. ET.  Be sure to keep checking back for more details on the popular TV show.
