Nintendo has now confirmed that they will in fact be coming out with the sequel to their popular Wii U team-based third person shooter video game, Splatoons, called Splatoons 2. The company was also adamant in its announcement that the brand new game will not just be a remastered version of the original game, but an entirely brand new sequel.

To add the icing on the proverbial cake, the company announced that the sequel will be coming out on their next generation console, the Nintendo Switch. According to Engadget, the video teaser that was shown for the sequel during its announcement actually looked like it was just be a remastered version of the original title.

However, the game's producer, Hisashi Nogami, was quick to dispense of that same notion amongst the audience during the announcement by mentioning that the new game will in fact have a number of new content and improvements over the previous title.

It was revealed that the game will be featuring a lot of new stages, new special attacks, new weapons, and new fashion styles. During the demo, a pair of pistols called the "splat dualies" were featured. The weapons apparently allow players to travel great distances by using the weapons like rockets.

The new game was also revealed to contain the same gyro aiming system in the previous game, which means that it can easily be played with a myriad of controllers. As per Gamespot, the biggest change that will be coming to the sequel however is its ability to support local multiplayer. This means that players can challenge other players locally as opposed to playing minigames.

The team-based third person shooter will also feature the same four versus four online matches that can be played by up to eight players. Splatoons 2 will not be released alongside the Switch console, but instead will be rolled out sometime in the summer.
