The Game of Thrones fans and bookworms have been long waiting for the release of George R.R. Martin's The Winds of Winter. With a lot of assumptions, teasers, and missed deadlines, the sixth novel of the A Song of Ice and Fire series is still not yet published.

However, on Jan. 10, the 68-year-old author answered one of his followers' questions if there is any update about the much-awaited novel. It was recently reported that he responded with he is not yet done, but already made some progress. He supposed to finish the book by this time, but still no avail.

Martin started to tease his fans by saying that The Winds of Winter might be out this 2017, but pointed out that this was the same claim he said in 2016. According to NME, the novelist explained in 2014 that he doesn't get a "writer's block in conventional sense" that might be the reason for the book's delay, but he easily disrupted by distractions.

"I do my best writing when I'm not distracted. I'm not like some writers who can write while on the road or on book tours, some people do that," he said. He went on to explain that he simply can't do what other writers can, although he tried.

There are still two books left in the A Song of Ice and Fire series and some believed that with the writing takes too long, The Winds of Winter and the seventh novel titled A Dream of Spring might be released together. This is just some fans wishful thinking, thus this should be taken with a grain of salt until Martin confirms.

It was in 2011 when A Dance with Dragons was released and avid followers of the books hoped that Martin will stick to a five-year-cycle. But as 2016 ended, there was no A Winds of Winter hit the shelves. But, to make fans more hopeful this 2017, Amazon France wrongfully indicated a wrong listing of the novel back in September, although it was already corrected and proven to be not true.
