Jamie Dornan is trying to distance himself from being considered the same as his Fifty Shades of Grey character, Christian Grey.

Millions of fans may be invested in Dornan's performance as Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades films, but he draws the line at comparisons. The actor recently spoke with GQ Australia about BDSM culture, which is prevalent throughout the series, and how it doesn't interest him, ultimately.

"It doesn't float my boat," Dornan admitted (via People). "I've always been open-minded and liberal - I'd never judge anyone's sexual preference. Whatever gets people off is entirely up to them and there's a million different ways to please yourself, sexually."

Dornan took a deep dive into the world of BDSM when researching the role, visiting a a sex dungeon to experience the culture.

"It was like nothing I'd experienced before," Dornan said. "I'd never seen any form of S&M before this. I had no interest in that world."

Dornan also admitted that he would not want to hang out with the very-serious Christian in real life.

"[He's] not the sort of bloke I'd get along with," Dornan said. "All my mates are easygoing and quick to laugh - I wouldn't imagine myself sat in a pub with him. I don't think he would be my type, when it comes to choosing mates."

While Dornan may not be that similar to Christian, he still feels good about starring in the Fifty Shades film franchise. The movies have often been mocked in pop culture, and while Dornan understands why, he has his own thoughts.

"I don't blame people," the actor noted. "I've got plenty of opinions about things I don't know a lot about, or that I don't give a chance - it's just the nature of the beast. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it."

Fifty Shades Darker will be released in theaters on Feb. 10. The third film, Fifty Shades Freed, is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2018.
