While there was initial chatter that Mariska Hargitay's (Olivia Benson) character would be killed, and not be returning for Season 15 of Law and Order: SVU, those concerns have now officially been squashed, as she's now confirmed to return to the TV crime drama.

The hazy situation became significantly clearer when Hargitay took to Twitter on Saturday to make the welcoming news that she'll be coming back.

"Happy weekend.  It's official.  Season 15-I'LL BE BACK!"

The primary reason for the audience's concern was the fact that the season ended with a gun pointed at Olivia's head.  Although the audience still doesn't know whether it was fired, the situation was significant enough to cause a major ruckus amongst the loyal Hargitay fans.

Prior to the Season 14 finale, executive producer Warren Leight had spoken about the ramifications involved when putting a popular character's livelihood in jeopardy.

"It's a very scary thing to put your people in harm's way.  Yes, it makes everything much more dramatic, but then there's the issue of how often can you go to that well?  You can't do it too often or it loses its impact," he stated.
