Actresses Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Amanda Seyfried are all frontrunners to play Hillary Clinton in new biopic.

A biopic of the former first lady's life called Rodham will be about Clinton in the '70s when she was a lawyer in Washington, having just met future husband Bill Clinton. With Witherspoon (Walk the Line), Johansson (Hitchcock), Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Seyfried (Les Miserables) in the mix, Rodham director James Ponstoldt revealed his gratitude that the actresses are interested in the part.

"They're all wonderful actresses," he said, "We're very fortunate that a lot of really great actors are interested in playing these roles. We're in an enviable position."

Despite this, Ponstoldt insisted that he was looking for the right actress to play such a tricky part.

"Regardless of people's political affiliation," he explained, "or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don't find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive. I want a wonderful actress who could embody that."

The script to Rodham was on the "Black List" last year, a list of scripts with the biggest potential. After word got out that the script featured sex scenes, scriptwriter Young il-Kim cleared the record, stating, "I didn't write 50 Shades of Rodham as some news outlets are suggesting."

Asked if the final script would feature these sex scenes, Kim said, "It's an evolving process so I don't know. She was an attractive 26-year-old with an amazing future. And that's our thematic focus."

None of the roles for Rodham have been officially cast yet. The film is expected to have a 2016 release date. Clinton is speculated to be in contention for the next presidential election, which is also in 2016.
