The highly awaited sequel to 2013's hit zombie horror movie, "World War Z," has now reportedly been removed from Paramount's movie release schedule. Despite being a box office success for the film studio, the original movie was greatly criticized for its less than climactic end, which is why there is a big demand from fans for the story to continue and to reach a proper ending. So, should fans still hope for "World War Z 2"?

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming sequel, tentatively called "World War Z 2," has now apparently been removed from Paramount's release schedule. The movie previously held a June 9, 2017 premiere date, but it seems like the movie's production is nowhere near the stage where a June release date is possible. As it stands, "World War Z 2" still currently has no release date.

As for the movie's production status, its director J.A. Bayona has already revealed that he will be exiting from the project to work on the upcoming "Jurassic World" sequel instead. A report from Gamespot reveals that Paramount may be eyeing David Fincher to take over the project. However, there is still no confirmation if he will be on board to helm "World War Z 2." It has to be noted that the original "World War Z" movie was also met with similar issues during its production. The production for the original film was extremely behind schedule and way over budget. Several reshoots were also necessary to complete the film.

Overall, the production problems resulted in a premiere delay of several months. Despite the problems, "World War Z" still made a profit by raking in more than $540 million in gross sales worldwide, making it the highest grossing zombie movie of all time. "World War Z" also received mostly positive reviews with most critics praising Brad Pitt for his performance as Gerry Lane, a former United Nations investigator tasked to help stop the zombie pandemic.
