A brand new second anime television series adaptation for "Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru" has now been given the go signal for production. The mostly female fanbase of the anime based on the popular collectible card browser video game, "Touken Ranbu," will surely be delighted by the news as the sequel will undoubtedly be giving new life to franchise's beloved characters.

The announcement for the brand new "Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru" sequel was made at the "Special Event Hanamaru Biyori!" at Makuhari Messe in Chiba over the weekend, as reported by Anime News Network. To commemorate the occasion, the original series' character designer, Junichiro Taniguchi, revealed a poster of Yasusada Yamatonokami and Kiyomitsu Kashū. Unfortunately, details about the upcoming new sequel's story or premise were not revealed to fans during the event. The characters that will be appearing were also not yet revealed. However, it would be safe to assume that even more legendary swords, and ergo more boys, will be featured in the new anime series.

The original "Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru" was set in the year 2205, where sages were tasked to time travel back to the past in order to stop the "historical revisionists" group from wreaking havoc to the timeline. The sages in turn have the ability to turn legendary swords into their human counterparts, mostly attractive young men or bishōnen, that will aid them in their missions. The story itself revolves around one of the strongest sages, Tōken Danshi, and her fellow sages as they battle to prevent history from being destroyed.

"Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru" is basically a gender-swapped version of the game, " Kantai Collection," which had targeting boys and young adults. The first season of the anime was first aired back in Oct. 2, which then concluded in December of last year. The anime was streamed by Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan. An English dubbed version has also been made available by Funimation.
