Many users have probably already forgotten the original Nvidia Shield Tablet with the advent of new Nvidia gaming products, such as the new Shield Android TV. The original Nvidia Shield Tablet was also met with a lot of issues, which is why it was relaunched as the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1.

Due to the original Nvidia Shield Tablet being a fire hazard and the recall that followed, most gamers had outright dismissed product as a lost cause. However, Nvidia is apparently still pretty much supporting the new tablet as evident with newly released operating system update.

The current generation Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is actually now quite a bargain, as per CNET, given its $200 price tag and the recently released Android 7.0 Nougat operating system update. Given the relatively affordable price tag, the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 continues to be one of the most sought after products when it comes to portable gaming systems.

According to Droid Life, with the new Nougat operating system update, the older Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is now capable of supporting the separately sold Shield controller. The update also now give players full split-screen support when running two apps side by side. Several other functionalities have also been added include Quick Switch support, multiple notifications, direct reply, and other customization and settings options.

Despite being an older system, with a slower Tegra K1 chip, the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 is still quite an excellent device for gaming as it is still able to connect to an external display with a 4K resolution output. The device is also able to play games from either an Nvidia-equipped desktop computer or a home network.

Additionally, the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 has been revealed to be fully compatible with the soon-to-be relaunched GeForce Now game streaming service. The original Nvidia Shield Tablet was launched back in July 2014, followed by a relaunched of the device as the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 back in November 2015.
