HTC is reportedly planning to release a mobile virtual reality solution with the launch of a Vive Mobile VR Headset as part of its vision to control the high-end VR market. The news is officially confirmed by HTC's CFO Chia-Lin Chang, who has revealed that the new headset will work with their new flagship smartphone, the HTC U Ultra.

Smartphone maker HTC is working on a new kind of mobile virtual reality headset, according to CNET. HTC's chief financial officer at Taiwan-based HTC, Chialin Chang, said that the new headset, HTC Vive Mobile VR Headset, will be compatible with the company's new flagship smartphone, the 'U Ultra'. However he did not go into the additional details, nor he said on whether the device would be shipping anytime soon.

One thing is sure that the device won't be as simple as the Samsung Gear VR, which relies entirely upon the smartphone for computing purposes. HTC Vive Mobile VR Headset has taken off more quickly than PC-based VR systems like HTC's Vive headset since Samsung recently has announced it had shipped more than 5 million Gear VR units.

The HTC Vive Mobile VR Headset would likely to compete with the Samsung Gear VR and also the Google Daydream View. Chang has mentioned that HTC plans to fill the gap between solutions like the Gear VR and PC-based systems. You should note that HTC actually manufactures the Google Pixel, the first Daydream View-compatible device.

According to Venture Beat, in the spring of 2016, HTC has launched its HTC Vive VR headset for PCs. Stephanie Llamas, an analyst at SuperData Research, said in a press statement that the Vive has pulled into the lead in the market so far and they're better prepared than most companies to reach that full spectrum. Based on that statement, HTC is not ready to describe a product anytime soon.

HTC Vive is already a popular name in the world of Virtual Reality. However, it has a few numbers of users due to the cost, as well as the PC configuration that is required to run it.

On the other hand, the HTC Vive Mobile VR Headset is something which will have a wider use for the users. HTC had also launched the Live port M phone-based VR app store last year. HTC has sold about 420,000 Vive headsets in 2016.
