History network's historical drama action-adventure television series, "Vikings" ended its fourth season on the first week of February this year. Since then, fans have been patiently waiting for official updates to come out to prepare themselves for what "Vikings" season 5 has to offer.

It has been officially announced by the network in March last year that a "Vikings" season 5 has already been commissioned. It was reported that the upcoming season is going to be composed of twenty episodes, like the previous one. However, fans are reportedly going to be seeing a lot of changes when the new season airs, including the former main character, Ragnar Lothbrok, expected not to be seen.

It has already been confirmed by actor Travis Fimmel before that his character, Ragnar, will not be coming back anymore in "Vikings" season 5. According to Variety, series creator, Michael Hirst, reportedly said that Ragnar is supposed to die in the fourth season. Additional, the writers apparently felt that the character is already ready to die, in which he is happy even before his death, knowing that his sons will be there to avenge him.

Hirst added that Ragnar will be part of the history of the show and his presence to be felt in "Vikings" season 5 even without him actually being there. The creator further said that the legendary viking's legacy will be continued by his sons, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), Ubbe (Jordan Smith), Hvitserk (Mark Iloso) and Ivar (Alex Hogh). Another son of Ragnar, Sigurd (David Lindstrom) was killed by his own brother, Ivar, on the finale episode of the fourth season.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the horrible scene on the previous finale episode of "Viking", where Ragnar's sons were eyeing each other, is reportedly not the last for the brothers to go on each others' throat. As per the source, there will be more scenarios in "Vikings" season 5, which will eventually show the brothers fighting each other.

This is because each of them will reportedly feel superior among the others. Moreover, the aforementioned source said that Hirst hinted a character that will definitely be a threat to the brothers in "Vikings" season 5. Bishop Heahmund, portrayed by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, is reportedly Ivar's next enemy.
