"Designated Survivor" Season 1 follows Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) who is suddenly, and reluctantly, made into a United States president when the former American leader and his cabinet were killed in a bomb attack. Kirkman was a Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He has no military background, nor has he ever held a political position.

The last episode of "Designated Survivor" Season 1 part 1 ended with Tom Kirkman shot while his vice president Peter MacLeish (Ashley Zukerman) was sworn in to take his place. Will the president survive? Kirkman is seen being rushed into surgery for the gunshot wounds. Macleish is now the acting president.

According to TV Line, the chaos was a result of the conspiracy to put VP Peter MacLeish into power. Agent Hannah Wells (Maggie Q) will undergo a long interrogation after she was suspected of knowing the truth behind the assassination plot. Will she have the courage to reveal the truth?

Natascha McElhone plays as Alex Kirkman, wife of Tom Kirkman in the "Designated Survivor" Season 1. She is not also prepared for the role that she suddenly found herself in.

Adon Canto of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" joins the cast of "Designated Survivor" Season 1 as the White House Chief of Staff, Aaron Stone. He is the advisor of the president. Meanwhile, Kal Penn plays the role of the press secretary. Penn is known for his comedic roles on "Harold and Kumar" and "House M.D." according to Express.

"Designated Survivor" Season 1 airs on March 16 on Netflix. The American political drama will also air on ABC every Wednesday at 10 p.m.
