Demi Lovato will undergo surgery this summer to remove her tonsils.

The X Factor judge revealed the news to Britain's talk show host Alan Carr during her May 31 appearance on his show.

"I'm getting my tonsils out this summer. I've been meaning to get them out for years and years, but my career has just been going, going, going," she said. "But the thing is, I keep getting sick. Like once a month I get really sick. They're actually not doing me any good, so I'm getting them removed."

The surgery comes at a time when the singer has a lot on her plate. The 20-year-old, who released her fourth studio album Demi on May 14, will have to schedule the album's promotion around her surgery.

She is also in the audition process of X Factor with fellow judges Simon Cowell, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio. The four judges had their first stop in Charleston, S.C. in late May for the talent show, which will premiere this fall.

So far, Lovato is having a great time working with the two new female judges.

"I love the new judges, they're amazing," she told Digital Spy in a May interview. "Kelly is so much fun to work with - she's got a great energy about her and we connect really well. It was just an instant, off-the-bat kinda thing. Paulina is doing great as well - she's really, really huge in South America and I'm glad the show is representing that side of things more."

In the same interview, she revealed that she does miss former judges Britney Spears and L.A. Reid.

"We spent a lot of time together and we'd formed those bonds," she added. "But it's a new chapter now and I'm excited to start a new experience with new people."
