A lot of Windows smartphone fans were probably thrilled for this year. This is all due to the rumors strongly suggesting that the tech giant might finally launch its highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 sometime 2017. However, it seems like there is a slight chance that this may not actually come to light.

The tech giant, as what was claimed, has a different device set to be launched this year, a former company contractor revealed on Reddit. The smartphone, unfortunately, is not the highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone 2017. No brand or flagship has been named so far.

As for the status of Microsoft Surface Phone 2017, the Reddit user stated that the Redmond-based tech giant hasn't trashed the device just yet. Every details about the smartphone, however, are confidential. But if the claim is in any way legit, then fans can certainly expect to hear more about the handset sometime later 2018.

In terms of specification, there are rumors suggesting that the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 may carry a Qualcomm System on Chip (SoC). Enstarz reported that the highly anticipated handset will run using a Snapdragon 835 backed with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB storage.

On the outside, the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 device is being expected to sport a 5.7-inch AMOLED screen. Unfortunately, no word yet on the display quality of the phone. It will have, however, a USB Type-C connection and a 21 megapixel camera - presumably located on its back.

Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 was originally expected to see the light of day sometime first half of 2017, Trusted Review reported. But if the informant above is in fact legit, then fans can disregard this speculation. If not, however, then it's best to take that one with a pinch of salt or at least until more concrete evidence comes up proving otherwise. More news about the matter should emerge in the coming months.
