2017 Tesla Model X Review: Ludicrous Speeds, Looks & Luxury at a Ludicrous Price [VIDEO]
Tesla's 2017 Model X is a big step for the company as the vehicle itself lands a lot of firsts for its particular segment. For one, the Tesla Model X is officially the world's first fully electric SUV. However, the accomplishments don't really end there as the vehicle itself has now significantly changed the playing field for other would-be electric car manufacturers moving forward.
The Tesla Model X is also currently the world's quickest SUV, with a confirmed 3.1 seconds to 100 km from a standstill. To put that into perspective, the Ferrari 488 gets to a 100 km in 3.0 seconds. The biggest difference, however, is that the Tesla Model X weighs a whopping 5,594 lbs. The large curb weight is mainly due to numerous batteries set low on the vehicle to provide further stability.
At first glance, the Tesla Model X does stand out of the pack, particularly when the second-row doors open. As per a report from Car and Driver, the SUV is equipped with a one of a kind double-hinged "Falcon Wing" door that opens sideways and up. This allows passengers to easily enter and exit the vehicle without much fuss. Speaking of which, the Tesla Model X's front doors also open and close automatically without any buttons or handles to touch.
As for its interior, those who have ridden or own a Tesla Model S will be quite familiar with the layout as it sports the same relative setup as the sedan. This includes the huge 17-inch touchscreen mounted on the dash that controls all of the vehicle's functions.
Despite the SUV's sporty nature, particularly the 532 horsepower and 713 pounds-feet of torque on tap in Ludicrous mode, the vehicle can still seat seven passengers in relative comfort. According to The Globe and Mail, all of the luxury and technology will come at a price as the Tesla Model X is one of the most expensive SUVs on the market. Consumers can actually purchase two Range Rover SUVs with the top-of-the-line Tesla Model X's $200,000 price tag.
