Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid are the picture-perfect couple. Still, the former One Direction singer admits that he has been hurt by love in the past. Could this pain be brought by his failed relationship with former fiancé Perrie Edwards?

Before Hadid, there was Edwards in the life of Malik. He met 23-year-old singer on the set of the 8th series of "The X Factor." In May 2012, they became an official item. More than a year later, in August 2013, they revealed their engagement much to the delight of their fans.

During their relationship, the English singer had a portrait of Edwards tattooed on his bicep to show his adoration to his girlfriend. Her influence on him is so strong that rumors said the Little Mix singer has something to do with his decision to quit the popular One Direction boy band.

However, it was not a happy ending for Malik and Edwards. In July 2015, "Shout Out To My Ex" singer revealed that her boyfriend then broke up with her through a text message. Daily Mail reported that it was the worst time in her life. "A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that," she wrote in Lil Mix's book.

Malik said that he has more respect for Edwards than to break up with her through text. "I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that," he denied according to Fader magazine.

Just a few months later, Malik was linked to Hadid. Though their relationship is going strong, there are still rumors that Teen Choice awardee is still pinning for his former girlfriend. Meanwhile, Edwards is reportedly dating Arsenal soccer player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlaine.
