Since the announcement of the brand new Marvel-licensed "Spider-Man" video game at the 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) back in June of last year, fans have been waiting for the game's developers to reveal its release date. However, the vice president and the executive editor at Marvel Digital Media, Ryan Penagos, may have just confirmed that the game will be coming out this year.

According to a report from Trusted Reviews, Penagos apparently revealed the information in a recently held Livestream broadcast while he was talking about Marvel's upcoming video game properties. The Livestream was captured by a Reddit user named GamingSince95, who immediately spread the news to the gaming community.

"There's even more on the horizon for 2017 like 'Spider-Man' coming to PlayStation 4 and 'Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite' coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC," Penagos had mentioned in the Livestream broadcast.

The upcoming new game has been revealed to be an open-world action adventure title that will have gamers play as the iconic web-slinger. The game is being developed by Insomniac Games, who are actually well known for such titles as "Ratchet and Clank" and "Sunset Overdrive." The upcoming "Spider-Man" video game will be the first licensed game for the developer.

As per a report from Gamespot, the upcoming "Spider-Man" video game will be featuring an all-original story for the superhero and will in no way be linked to the comics, film, or any other media within the franchise. The character has also been revealed to be an "experienced" superhero within the new game and will apparently be unlike any "Spider-Man" game fans have played before.

The game's official description also teases that players will be able to openly explore the game's open world by traversing obstacles with parkour and utilizing Spider-Man's acrobatic prowess. "New combat" and "blockbuster set pieces" have also been teased for the game, which does make it sound like quite an interesting game for 2017.
