While driving yesterday, Katherine Berman, wife of iconic ESPN sportscaster, Chris Berman, was killed in a horrific accident.

According to TMZ, the crash occurred in the afternoon when Katherine crashed her vehicle into another car in front of her. The crash left Katherine's car overturned and off the road. The other car continued to move forward, where it crashed into a nearby pole and was left also overturned. Both drivers involved in the accident died.

The victim that Katherine crashed into was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Photographs showing the scene of the accident show both cars completely destroyed.

Chris "Boomer" Berman and Katherine "Kathy" Alexinski had been married since 1983. Together they had two children. Chris was at Citi field watching a game when he was notified of his wife's death.

ESPN has since released a statement regarding the crash and deaths. President John Skipper lead the statement saying,

"This is a devastating tragedy and difficult to comprehend. Chris is beloved by all his ESPN colleagues and for good reason: he has a huge heart and has given so much to so many over the years. We know how much his family means to him and all we can do at a moment like this is give him the love and support he will surely need at this hour. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Meredith, Doug and the entire family."
