It has been a few years since Glee star, Corey Monteith died of a drug overdose, but for many fans that wound of losing him has never healed. This sense of mourning is especially prevalent today, which would have been Monteith's 35th birthday.

Fans have been coming together throughout social media to share posts and tweets about their favorite moments of the star. With Glee touching so many people, remembrance posts wishing him a happy birthday have made his name a trending topic for today. Monteith may have passed away, but his fan following is still alive, and the fact that so many people have shared their thoughts is the most comforting way to pay their respects.

Starring as one of the leads, Monteith was a warm presence amongst the Glee cast, where his character, Finn Hudson, was seen as a leader. Throughout his journey with the show though, his struggles with drug and alcohol addictions started to creep up and overshadow the headlines about him.

On July 13, 2013 , Monteith was discovered dead in a hotel room in Vancouver. After failing to check out, the hotel's staff went to check on the room and found his body. Foul play was ruled out in his death by the police department, which was later confirmed to have been an accidental overdose from a mix of heroin and alcohol. Monteith had been in a heavily publicized relationship with Glee co-star Lea Michelle when he died.

While Glee ended a season after his passing, his character was written off the show using an unexplained death. The show left out the details of his characters passing in respect, saying that they wanted to focus more on the life he lived, and not on how he died. Among his other works, Monteith is also renowned for his work on Monte Carlo and Sisters and Brothers.
