Another pairing from The Bachelor have called off their engagement. To many fans, this news comes as quite a surprise.

Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell from The Bachelor have announced that they have mutually decided to end their engagement. The news was shared in a statement released by PEOPLE.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways," the duo shared in the statement. "We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time."

Higgins and Bushnell met on the show's 20th season in 2016. A flight attendant from Oregon, Bushnell beat out 27 other women vying to win Higgins's heart. Higgins worked as a software salesman before competing on season 11 of the show. He was then selected to appear as the star bachelor for season 20.

Higgins raised some controversy during the season 20 finale when he infamously told both Bushnell, and runner up Joelle 'JoJo' Fletcher that he loved them. Despite the rocky start to their relationship, the duo had been going strong together, sharing news of their engagement after the show wrapped.

To many fans, this news comes as a bit of a shock. Their love on the show came across as very genuine to fans, and their personas turned them into a bit of a power couple that appeared to have long lasting potential in viewers' eyes. Alas, that turned out to not be the case.
