It is a known fact that former president, Barack Obama, was strongly pulling for Hillary Clinton during this past election. What comes as a surprise to many though is just how strong his dislike for Donald Trump runs.

"He's nothing but a bullsh-ter," Obama told close friends according to PEOPLE. Other words that Obama has used to describe Trump in the past include "unfit" and "woefully unprepared." A source connected to Obama revealed to PEOPLE that his opinion of the current president "hasn't gotten any better."

In the past, Trump has been harsh and critical of Obama and his policies, even calling some of them a disaster situation. In a phone call on election night though, Trump reportedly told former president that he had a lot of "respect" and "admiration" for him. This change of expression from the businessman came as quite a surprise.

When it comes to Obama and his life after the presidency, a friend of the president told PEOPLE that he is taking a hands off approach.

"He's very respectful of the appropriate role of a former president and that ex-presidents should not be looking over the shoulder of their successors and commenting on every decision," says political strategist and friend of Obama, David Axelrod. "Obviously, this now is a unique set of circumstances, but my sense is that he's going to try and respect that tradition while reserving the right to speak out in given moments when things rise to that level."
