Nick Clooney gushed over his newborn grandchildren, Ella and Alexander, in a Skype phone call shortly after they were born.

The retired anchorman praised his daughter-in-law for being strong throughout it all.

"Amal, who is Super Woman, she is just amazing," Nick shared in a FOX19 NOW phone interview. "The babies are beautiful, of course, she's beautiful. She was telling us last week that she is as big as a house. Of course, for her, that's a very small house. But, she's great."

The babies and first-time mom were reported to be happy and healthy. However, George was burnt out from all the commotion.

"George, well, his eyes were glazed so I'm not sure that he was sober," Nick joked. "We'll figure that out."

Nick was worried that George would never settle down and start a family. That changed when he met Amal.

"By golly, when we met Amal, we got that figured out in a hurry," Nick said. "Just as I, George married up."

The family has yet to release a photo of the newborns, but Nick told US Weekly that they both have dark hair. Their grandmother, Nina Clooney, said that they are starting to resemble their father.

"Nina swears they have George's nose. I don't know what that means," said the proud grandfather.
