With many of the cast from American Horror Story's last two seasons returning for season 3, many have been wondering about the fate of Zachary Quinto.

The actor told E! at Monday's Critics' Choice TV Awards that he does not think he will be returning for season 3 of the Ryan Murphy-created horror series.

"I'm actually going to do a play on Broadway in the fall," the actor said, talking about his starring role n The Glass Menagerie beginning Sept. 5 and continuing through the fall.

"But the nature of [American Horror Story] is such that I'm sure Ryan could call and say, 'Could you fly down on your day off and do one episode?' And if he does, I would always be open to that." Quinto admitted. "But we haven't had any conversations. So as of now I'm not planning to be a part of it."

In American Horror Story's first season Quinto played Chad Warwick, one half of a gay couple who died in the "Murder House" and proceeded to haunt its new residents. In season 2, he was first-billed in the opening credits, playing the psychopathic Dr. Oliver Threadson.

With Quinto all but confirmed to be sitting out season 3, it's looking to be a female-heavy cast next season. Returning actresses include Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy, and Taissa Farmiga, joined by new cast members Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, Gabourey Sidibe and Emma Roberts.

The only male to be confirmed for season 3 is Evan Peters, who had a starring role in the show's first two seasons. There were rumors that Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor J. August Richards would be joining the cast, but reports have not been confirmed.

Paulson told E! on Monday it's a testament to Murphy's writing that so many actresses wish to be a part of his series. She also explained that she couldn't reveal anything about the upcoming season "without shooting you in the neck with a dart of death serum."

American Horror Story: Coven will premiere in October.
