2 Chainz took to the airwaves today to discuss the attempted robbery and ensuing shootout that almost claimed his life during a trip to San Francisco last weekend.

The rapper appeared on Atlanta radio station 107.9 and for the first time revealed the details of the shooting, which was caught on tape by security cameras from adjacent storefronts.

"I saw the gun first," 2 Chainz told the station's hosts. "It was like a .357. It was so heavy he couldn't really hold it. The gun was so big. That's what made me take off running."

The rapper said there was a second assailant, who also brandished a gun and began firing, leaving bullet fragments in 2 Chainz' signature dreadlocks.

The College Park, Georgia native wasn't carrying any cash when the thieves asked for his wallet, but he believes the thieves weren't really after his money.

"I don't think they were trying to rob me," 2 Chainz said during the interview. "They really was just busting on me on some real stuff. At the end of the day, it's just a part of me growing as an artist, me becoming more pop, me becoming a superstar."

In light of the attack, 2 Chainz beefed up his security but says he plans to move on with his career and refuses to allow the incident to have any adverse effects on his life. His appearance at his scheduled show in San Francisco just hours after the attempted robbery is a testament to his mission to carry on with business as usual.

"I'm just excited about life," he said. "I'm so turnt up, you can't turn me down. I'm just geeked about life. Then when I saw the footage, I'm like it was real. They was on my ass!' This was a sign. That's all it was. I come from this."

San Francisco police haven't named any suspects as of yet and claimed that the Def Jam Records star and his entourage weren't cooperative in the investigation.
