It’s been a while since Jay Z and Kanye West have been in good graces. And even though there is no clear indication as to what caused the issues between the on-again-off-again brothers, Jay-Z has opened up about whether there’s a chance they could become close friends again.

Jay-Z Talks Kanye West Feud

Jay-Z candidly dished on their friendship during an interview as he promoted his tour in support of his Grammy-nominated album 4:44. And in one of the first times, he didn’t hold back about his personal life.

He revealed that he and West just spoke days prior during the interview with The New York Times. He admitted that he still loves him despite their “complicated” friendship. He went on to break down why their relationship has so many ups and downs.

He reminded fans that West entered the music industry on his label. Considering that, the two have always been like brothers — feeding into a natural competitive state as they are both popular rappers.

“We both love and respect each other’s art, too. So it’s like, we both – everyone wants to be the greatest in the world. You know what I’m saying? And then there’s like a lot of other factors that play in it. But it’s gonna, we gonna always be good.”

There were lots of reports and rumors that the two had a falling out when West started seriously dating his now wife, Kim Kardashian West. Fans might remember Jay-Z and his wife, Beyonce, opted out of going to the wedding overseas. Instead, they were spotted biking in The Hamptons the same weekend. There has also been speculation that Beyonce isn’t a fan of Kardashian either.

Hope For Their Friendship?

While Jay-Z didn’t confirm whether West’s love life played a part in the rift of their relationship, he did say there is still quite a bit of tension between them. But he has hopes that they’ll rekindle their friendship for good one day.

“Hopefully when we’re 89 we look at this six months or whatever time and we laugh at that,” said Jay-Z.

He added that the first step would be for them to have a face-to-face conversation and iron out their real issues with one another. Jay-Z admitted he’s convinced West believes Jay-Z wronged him in some way as well.

“We just need to speak about it. But there’s genuine love there.”
