Pamela Anderson 'Victim Shames' Harvey Weinstein Accusers, Refuses To Apologize
As Hollywood continues to deal with the aftershock of the 'Weinstein Effect', many actors and actresses have offered their opinions on how harassment and abuse can be prevented in the industry. Actress Pamela Anderson gave her sentiments on the delicate situation but, surprisingly she's siding with the one person everyone least expected, Harvey Weinstein.
The Baywatch actress recently sat down with Megyn Kelly for an interview where she stated that the victims have to take some responsibility for what happened to them, while also delving into her past experiences with sexual abuse.
"We naturally blame ourselves. ... You somehow think that you are to blame, but I learned to never put myself into those situations again. When I came to Hollywood, I, of course, had a lot of offers to do private auditions and things that made absolutely no sense. Common sense - don't go into a hotel room alone, if someone answers the door in a bathrobe, you know, leave," Anderson stated.
The 50-year-old revealed that from the ages of 6 to 10, she was sexually abused by a female babysitter and that she was raped by an older man at the age of 12.
The actress received backlash for her comments and was accused of 'victim-shaming'. Anderson responded to her critics in a blog post on Saturday evening, where she acknowledged that Weinstein was a sexist pig who should pay for his crimes but also refused to back down from what she said.
"I do NOT wish apologise [sic] for what I said. And will not get coerced into apology. This exactly what I am saying is a problem with the contemporary "victimhoood feminism!" The people who subscribe to that notion tolerate and actually expect women to talk about the stories of abuse and experiences with creeps."
The Weinstein Scandal
In regards to the Weinstein scandal, Anderson did reveal that she was not shocked by the number of accusations against him. The once celebrated Hollywood producer has been accused by over 80 women including actresses: Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Rose McGowan.
While Anderson's comments have not been well-received, other big names in the industry are starting to come together to end the on-going epidemic. Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon met with other powerful women in entertainment while three of Weinstein's accusers came together during Thanksgiving for a 'meeting of the minds'.
The LAPD recently announced that they are currently investigating 28 sex crimes in Hollywood and expect more cases to be open soon.
