American Idol may be in a state of upheaval while execs revamp the show in preparation of season 13, but Ryan Seacrest revealed he is still in position to host for the foreseeable future.

Although the search for a new panel of Idol judges has ground to a momentary halt, Seacrest had at least one recommendation. The long time host would like to bring back Simon Cowell, even though that is momentarily impossible as he is tied up with The X Factor.

"To have a chance to spar with him again on live national television would be heaven," Seacrest told Access Hollywood. "He really is a great guy. He's the best at that job. He is the best at the judging job."

Cowell was part of the music competition's original trio of judges when the show premiered in 2002. Over the course of the last 12 seasons, all the original judges have departed and in their absence the panel has grown to include a fourth critic. According to Seacrest, the show would do better to return to its original formatting.

"I mean look, when we had four it was fine. My opinion would be three. It makes for a faster moving show," Seacrest said, according to Access Hollywood. "Of course, they don't really care what I think, but I think three would make for faster moving show."

Perhaps picking up the pace of the show will help to ease Idol's current declining ratings. However, until the program chooses a new set of judges, it is hard to tell exactly what next season holds in store for the Fox competition.
