Gru and his tiny minions are back and plotting...birthday parties?

That seems to be the case in this new featurette for Despicable Me 2. Staring Steve Carell as the notoriously evil villain turned father, the Illuminations Entertainment animated comedy is set to rope the once nefarious dad back into the world he left behind.

Carell sets up the plot in the short video. Abducted by the Anti-Villain League, Gru must team up with the exuberant Lucy Wilde (Kristen Wiig) to take down another evildoer. However, things become even more complicated when Gru's oldest girl falls for the villain's son.

Although viewers may remember Wiig from the original Despicable Me, her new character seems to be quite the 180 from the evil orphanage supervisor, Miss. Hattie. Instead, Wilde seems to be a strong, easily excitable agent who will certainly clash with Gru to comic results.

Most importantly, the yellow, thumb-shaped, goggle-wearing minions are back and seem to be as amusing as ever. Although their babble is incomprehensible, the pint-sized lackeys pop in and out of the featurette with rather adorable antics. The henchmen are due to receive their own movie in December 2014.

Despicable Me 2 will hit theaters on July 3.
