CBS' hit crime show, Criminal Minds, will be making its highly anticipated return in the fall for Season 9.

In terms of its upcoming storylines, actor Joe Mantegna recently revealed to E! Online that the TV series will be focusing more on the backstories and "secrets" of its main characters.

Mantegna, who will actually be directing one of the upcoming episodes, stated that he's planning on having a sit-down with the creative brass in order "to try and have some input on some storylines."

"The writers are so god that we all give them free reign. I take my job seriously playing David Rossi, and they take their job seriously writing this show. Where they're going to lead us, I don't know," he said.

In terms of its characters' checkered pasts, Mantegna hinted that there might be some further secrets to come that'll serve to thicken the plotline.

"There may some more other secrets that are unveiled, as well as things about all the other characters," he said.
