Attention, music lovers! Universal Music Group and Facebook are collaborating on a licensing deal that will enhance your social media experience.

The Music Messenger

Ever wanted to post a video of you singing Demi Lovato's "You Don't Do It For Me Anymore" or Kanye West's "Heartless" without fearing Facebook removing the video? The major multi-year licensing deal that both Facebook and Universal Music Group signed today will allow users to keep their musical ambitions alive.

Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Oculus will allow users to legally incorporate songs from the Universal Music Group into their posts. The recording company is the very first music corporation to license any song from its vast libraries for a new kind of digital experience.

"There is a magnetic relationship between music and community. We are excited to bring that to life on Facebook, Instagram, Oculus, and Messenger in partnership with UMG," said Tamar Hrivnak, Facebook's head of music business development and partnerships. "Music lovers, artists, and writers will all be right at home as we open up creativity, connection, and innovation through music and video."

Facebook vs YouTube

Many industry insiders believe that Facebook's brand new venture with Universal Music Group may present a challenge for one of its biggest competitors. Universal Music Group also has signed an agreement with YouTube. Starting next year, the recording industry will start synching its content with some of YouTube's elite services. One service that music industry fans may need to take a closer look at is if they find Lady Gaga's "The Cure," Kendrick Lamar's "Humble," or OneRepublic's "Apologize" on YouTube Red, the social media network's premium service.

While Facebook remain mum if they are targeting YouTube with this deal, several Universal Music Group leaders are concentrating on making sure that professional artists continue to make a living as details of this partnership are rolled out.

"This partnership is an important first step demonstrating that innovation and fair compensation for music creators are mutually reinforcing----they thrive together." Said Michael Nash, Universal Music Group's executive vice president of digital strategy.

Facebook's Major Moments

The social networking company's deal with Universal Music Group continues to prove why Facebook is having an incredible 2017.

Facebook signed a significant deal with the WWE to air and introduce a new 12 episode web series Mixed Match Challenge. Mixed Match Challenge will feature fan-favorite wrestlers from WWE Raw and SmackDown Live. The series will start airing in January.

Another critical moment for the social media network happened when Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg confronted President Trump on social media. Zuckerberg defended his organization to the President and stated that Facebook helped the country engage in dialogue during the 2016 Presidential Campaign.

A few weeks ago, Apple revealed that several of Facebook's products made it to the Top 10 Most Downloaded Apps of 2017. Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook all made the Top 6 of the 2017 Top Apps Charts.
