R&B singer, Chris Brown might be facing criminal charges after owning a pet monkey without a permit.

The Questions singer, could possibly face more jail time for illegally owning the exotic animal without a permit. Brown introduced the monkey via his Instagram when he posted a photo of his 3-year-old daughter, Royalty holding the Capuchin monkey. Brown immediately received backlash for the post, because people thought his daughter was in danger and that the animal belongs in the wild.

If Brown is found guilty of the charges he could face up to six months in prison.

If charged, this won't be Brown's first time in jail. Breezy fans might remember that the songwriter was arrested in October 2013, for a felony assault in Washington, D.C. after refusing to take a picture with two men.

The felony assault was reduced to a misdemeanor and later led to Brown wanting to go to rehab. The judge ordered Brown to complete 90 days in rehab and if he was kicked out of rehab he would go jail. Later, the recording artist was kicked out of the Malibu rehab facility. He was sentenced to jail and was released early on June, 2, 2014 for overcrowding calculations.

Monkey Business

The Grammy Award winner, isn't the first celebrity to own a "restricted species" without a permit. Justin Bieber has also owned a Capuchin monkey without the proper paperwork and vaccination records. In 2013, Bieber's monkey, O.G. Mally, was confiscated at an airport in Munich.

As for Brown, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was called and the case has been turned over to the L.A. City Attorney.

Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos downplayed the severity of the monkey issue.

"As I leave my office in Downtown L.A. and walk past people sleeping on the street on my way to defend people charged by the City Attorney with selling marijuana ... now spending taxpayer money on investigating monkey business, this completes the circle on his absurdity," Geragos told TMZ.

Although, the singer's monkey, Fiji, made her debut with his daughter, she appeared on his Instagram again on Dec. 21, 2017. In the past, Brown made it clear that he doesn't care about what anyone says or thinks, so it should come as no surprise that he continued to post photos of Fiji.

According to sources, the artist allegedly wanted the monkey because the late Michael Jackson, who Chris idolized, had a chimp named Bubbles.
