Steve Wilkos may have made a name for himself for protecting talk show host Jerry Springer and his guests from harm for many years, but now he's the one that's doing the recovering.

On Sunday, Darien Times reported that a car struck several poles and a tree before ending up on its side in Darien, Connecticut.

According to the Police, the driver was injured and taken to the local hospital for treatment.

Unfortunately, the driver was Wilkos, the former director of security on The Jerry Springer Show

Wilkos Gets Another Chance At Life

According to TMZ, Wilkos normally wears glasses when he drives, but he wasn't wearing them before the crash.

Wilkos was reportedly reaching for his glasses to put them on when he hit the curb and struck the poles and the tree. The 53-year-old stated that he never drinks or does drugs.

When asked how he was doing after the incident, Wilkos explained that he was so grateful to be alive.

"I feel lucky to be alive after seeing my car. I am so thankful to the first responders from Post 53 and our local department in Darien, CT as well as all of the the wonderful people who took care of me at Stamford hospital," Wilkos said

Unfortunately, in a rather sad coincidence, the audio technician for the show and his wife also crashed their car in a similar area and both were killed

As for Wilkos, he has been discharged from the hospital and production will reportedly start back up in a few days.

Wilkos Saves The Day

The former U.S. Marine is well remembered for being the security guard for The Jerry Springer Show from 1994 until 2007.

In January 2007, NBC Universal Studios announced that Wilkos would host his very own talk show, The Steve Wilkos Show, based at NBC Tower in Chicago. The talk show has received high ratings due to his abrasive approach for solving disputes.

Although the show was produced by his original executive producer, his wife encouraged him to be himself and that if really wanted to do it, he should.
