On Thursday, Jan. 25, Tom Cruise broke the internet and it wasn't with a stunt. The actor officially joined Instagram!

Joining the popular social media platform wasn't the only thing that he did. Cruise also revealed the title for the sixth installment of Mission: Impossible.

The Golden Globe winner posted a photo of a clapperboard that reads "Summer 18, Mission Impossible Fallout."

"Get ready. #MissionImpossible," Cruise captioned the photo.

Shortly after, Cruise followed with a second post of himself hanging on the side of a helicopter as it flew through the air.

"We've upped the ante for the sixth #MissionImpossible. I can't wait for you guys to see more," Cruise wrote.

Since joining Instagram, the actor has gained over 700,000 followers. He also joked about his love for adrenaline in his Instagram bio stating that he has been running in movies since 1981.

The producer is the latest celebrity to join Instagram following Jennifer Garner and Nicole Kidman who have also launched their own social media accounts.

The Stunt Man

In 1996, Cruise starred in and produced the reboot of Mission: Impossible, where he appeared as a superspy, Ethan Hunt. Although the film received criticism regarding the Jim Phelps character being a villain, the second installment was still a box office success.

In 2000, the actor returned as Ethan Hunt for the second installment of the Mission: Impossible film and it continued to be a success at the box office, making it the third highest-grossing film of the year. Cruise received an MTV Movie Award as Best Male Performance for his role in the film.

Cruise continued his role in the third installment, which grossed nearly $400 million at the box office. Mission: Impossibly Four helped the actor to continue the streak as a box office success. He returned as the producer for the fifth Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. Simon Pegg, (Benji) and Jeremy Renner (William Brandt) with Christopher McQuarrie as the director. 

Although the actor did not receive a Golden Globe for his role in Mission Impossible, he did receive a Golden Globe for each of his films, Born on the Fourth July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia

Those that have been waiting patiently for a new installment of the film will be happy to know that the sixth addition to the franchise, Mission Impossible - Fallout will be released on July 27th. This is the first time the film will be released in Real'D 3D and also in IMAX 3D.
