Weeks after showrunner Dan Harmon announced his return for Community's fifth season, new reports suggest that one of the show's stars may be requesting that his role be reduced.

Donald Glover, who plays ex-jock Troy Barnes on Community, requested to have his presence be limited when production begins on season 5, according to a Wednesday report. Multiple sources confirmed to Vulture that Glover wishes to focus on his rap career under his Childish Gambino pseudonym.

Glover has allegedly been "making noises" about only staying on board in a reduced capacity. However, one of his representatives said, "Donald Glover is under contract for Season 5 of the show," though the details of the contract are unclear.

Glover has sought out other ventures while on Community in the past. Last September, he was in talks to develop a new NBC sitcom loosely based on his life. The project ultimately had to be scrapped because of Community's fifth season renewal.

This isn't the first potential cast shakeup in Community's run. Glover's co-star Chevy Chase, who played Pierce Hawthorne on the show, was written out of the show in season 4. Chase had many conflicts with producers during his time on the show and asked to be written out. Co-star Joel McHale said in February that Chase "didn't want to be there."

Commenting on the new season, McHale said he was optimistic about what's to come under Harmon's supervision. "[Dan] has said in his interviews [that] he wants to write the hell out of this season, so that's what I focus on and am very thrilled about," he said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly Thursday.

On Harmon's recent harsh comments about season 4 of the show, McHale insisted, "I think people will care about the episodes more than anything." McHale added that he had no idea what was in store for the new season, but he said he knows the scripts will be "unique and original."

Community will premiere during the 2013-2014 television season on NBC, though a precise date has not been set yet.
