Jhene Aiko confronted speculation that she left her husband, music producer Dot Da Genius, for her now longtime boyfriend, Big Sean. The soulful singer has finally spoken out on whether she cheated on her ex-husband.

Jhene Aiko Breaks Down Timeline

According to Aiko, her first date with Big Sean happened when he was working on "I'm Gonna Be" and "Beware." The songs were released in 2012 and 2013 respectively. She was dating someone else when Big Sean asked her on a date to a basketball game.

“…I still went as a friend,” said Aiko during an interview with BBC. “I had never been court side to a game and he’s cool.”

She then said she actually told her then boyfriend, whose name she didn’t reveal, that she was going to a game. Aiko ultimately ended up getting married to Dot in a secret ceremony. They split shortly after amid rumors that she was dating Big Sean.

While Aiko tried to clear the air, fans aren’t necessarily convinced that there wasn’t an inappropriate overlap between her marriage with Dot and her romance with Big Sean. Aiko went on to explain more of her history with the men after she slammed critics for taking one snippet out of the interview and not listening to the full segment.

“… in 2012 I was in a relationship w/ someone who was secretly still married to his baby’s mother the [whole year and a half] we were together… this person was not Dot,” explained Aiko on Twitter. 

She went on to say that she and the mystery guy went their separate ways after she caught news of his secret love life. Still, she thought she should be “considerate” and tell the guy she was going out on a date with Big Sean. She maintained that nothing else happened other than a completely platonic friendship.

Big Sean Was Originally In The Friend Zone

“I went on to lose my brother 2 months after that basketball game. I remained single for a while and decided to focus on my Nami and recording my ep ‘sail out’ & album ‘souled out’…. And sorry to disappoint yet again, but me and Sean remained platonic friends through out,” Aiko went on.

She insisted there wasn't any physical contact going on.

Interestingly enough, she is said to have gone out with Big Sean in 2013. She married Dot in 2014 and filed for divorce in August 2016, weeks after she and Big Sean were spotted kissing during one of the concerts. Aiko and Big Sean went on to confirm they were dating the following October.
